Making the Most of the Last Days of Summer in Fort McMurray
As summer starts to wind down, Fort McMurray can sometimes feel a little quieter. Vacations are wrapping up, families are getting ready for another school year, and the city can seem a little less busy than it did at the beginning of summer.
But that doesn’t mean summer is over just yet!
There’s still plenty of time to get outside and enjoy everything our community has to offer before the cooler weather arrives.
Fort McMurray has an incredible trail system, and late summer is one of the best times to enjoy it. Whether you’re walking the dog, going for a bike ride, taking the kids out, or simply getting some fresh air, there are kilometres of beautiful trails throughout the community to explore.
And if you’re looking for something a little more relaxing, patio season isn’t over yet. Our local restaurants and patios are a great way to enjoy a warm afternoon or evening while supporting businesses right here in our community.
There are also plenty of ways to stay active outdoors—from parks and playgrounds to golf, biking, fishing and other recreational activities. And while Fort McMurray is certainly known for some of its larger winter events, there are still sporting events and community activities happening as we make our way through the final weeks of summer.
One thing I’ve learned about living in Fort McMurray is that you have to enjoy every season while it’s here. Our summers might sometimes feel like they go by quickly, but they’re full of beautiful days, long evenings and so many opportunities to get outside.
So if the city seems a little quiet right now, don’t mistake quiet for having nothing to do.
Grab a coffee and hit the trails. Find a patio. Catch a local game. Take the kids to the park. Walk the dog a little longer.
Summer isn’t over yet—and there’s still lots of Fort McMurray to enjoy.
